Running and Weight Loss
Running increases weight loss more than walking. When you do the math, it takes a lot of exercise to burn a pound of fat. The average person burns about 10 calories per minute or less during recreational physical activity. You must expend 3,500 calories to burn a pound of fat, which means you must exercise for at least 350 minutes. Those minutes add up, particularly if you exercise faster and longer. That means that weight loss in runners and walkers is proportional to the distance and speed of exercise. The weight loss will be greater in runner. High intensity exercise is best for losing weight.
