Which is Healthier?

Greek Food Face-Off

Gyro Sandwich (with Tzatziki Sauce):

  • 760 calories
  • 47 grams fat
  • 3 grams fiber
  • 25 grams protein
  • 54 grams carbs

Greek Salad with Chicken (with an oil and vinegar based dressing):

  • 460 calories
  • 28 grams fat
  • 5 grams fiber
  • 37 grams protein
  • 18 grams carbs

It’s all Greek to me, but the winner is clear. Even though the Greek salad have lots of fat from feta, olives ns dressing, they are mostly good fats, and the meal is still lower in fat and calories than a gyro sandwich. The gyro’s main nutritional downside is not its pita bread or Tzatziki sauce: the meat is a real doozy. The ground lamb, beef or both used in gyros are not necessarily of the leanest variety. Plus the salad boasts more fiber, from vegetables such as romaine, red onions ands tomatoes (they provide vitamins A and C).
